Steve Jobs…

Posted by Carlos in Opinions

I learned of Jobs’ death the same way many people did, while using one of his creations.  My family and I were at our local library, our children volunteer there once a week. My wife and I were waiting for them to finish up and were sitting at a corner table playing Air Hockey on my iPad when a notification from CNN popped up.  All I read was “Steve Jobs..” and I closed the lid to my iPad.

Many of us knew that it would be a matter of time before we would receive this news but were hopeful that something else would happen.

Reading the outpour of sympathy and grief coming from all over the world is proof of his impact.  He has changed the world for a better place.  Not just in technology but in many areas (personal computing, cellphone, design are just a few from the top of my head).
I would speculate that Mr. Jobs would not want us to mourn his loss, but celebrate his time with us and continue to strive to make our place better.  As he said during his commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005,  ”Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”

What better way to honor his memory than following his words, your heart and intuition and becoming the best you can be.

This is not another flame post about Verizon and their services.  It is more of a head’s up to ensure that you are receiving the service you are paying for from any service provider.

In particular, I am writing about Internet service.  I have been with Verizon as long as I can remember.  We moved into our new home about 4 years ago and we brought the Verizon service with us.  Where we were before we were receiving exceptional service and I did not think it would be different here.  Especially since FIOS was just “right around the corner”.

Coraline the Movie

Posted by Carlos in Reviews

CoralineThis past week my family and I saw Coraline the movie, directed by Henry Selick. This was an excellent movie which becomes even better once you know how it was made. The movie stars Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, and Jennifer Saunders to name a few, but the true stars are the animators.

Recently our family watched the Complete Series of Freaks and Geeks. This was a television series that aired in the fall season of 1999. Unfortunately it was canceled that same season. I enjoyed each and every episode and made me think back on the time when I was in high school, many years ago.

hp1Our family has begun a project for the summer, where we review one item a week. So each week, everyone takes on one item (book, movie, product, event, etc..) to give their take on it. My review for this week is of the movie Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. This is a theatrical adaptation of the book of the same name. Although it has been some time since I read the book, I believe that the movie did the book proud.
